AJ Turner is a composer, sound designer and multi-instrumentalist working across contemporary theatre, live art and experimental music based in London. Their practice centres on the raw, visceral affectivity of sound in performance, creating and collaborating on interdisciplinary projects through an intersectional feminist, disabled, queer lens.

Their work in critically acclaimed theatre productions has toured internationally and across the UK, seen at venues including The Almeida, Battersea Arts Centre, Schaubühne (Berlin), Carriageworks (Sydney), Frascati (Amsterdam), Arken (Copenhagen), and Soho Playhouse (New York). In their experimental music work they have been commissioned by organisations including the London Sinfonietta, Philharmonia Orchestra and Spitalfields Music. They were a Bang on a Can (New York) Composer Fellow in 2018, and a London Sinfonietta Writing the Future Composer from 2020 – 2022.

Bethany is an award-winning performance designer working across dance, theatre and installation. Trained in Architecture, she has a particular interest in site-specific + devised performance. With a focus on amplifying the lived experiences of disabled, chronically ill and marginalised artists, she is interested in expanding what can be achieved politically and socially by collective live experience. She trusts in the power of performance to open up space and time to new possible realities. Her practice is trauma-informed, in terms of both process and audience experience.

Recent work includes: Iconic Fatigue (Polite Rebellion), Songs of the Wayfarer (Claire Cunningham), Common Threads (The Bare Project), Biting Point (Middle Child), The Fabric Of Us (Lizzie Klotz & Luca Rutherford) and We Are All Memory Bodies (Charlotte Spencer Projects).

In her solo practice, Artists’ Child, she uses modular synthesis to sculpt meditative sonic journeys, creating immersive spatial worlds for audiences to enter into. She is Artistic Director of WARMTH Community Sauna in Sheffield.
