Matt Steinberg is an imaginative, values-driven, authentic leader who is passionate about intersections between professional and community arts, building evidence for arts-based health and wellbeing interventions and the development of early career artists. With over 20 years of international experience in the arts and cultural sector, he is an award-winning artistic director, stage director and performer.

Matt was a New Generation Artist at Iford Arts, and was awarded Equity Charitable Trust’s John Fernald Award for Emerging Directors, the Tyrone Guthrie Award from the Stratford Festival and the Christopher Plummer Award from Shakespeare’s Globe Centre Canada. Directing credits include Soho Theatre, Shoreditch Town Hall, the VAULT Festival, Southwark Playhouse, Theatre503, Iford Arts, New Diorama and Toronto’s Tarragon Theatre. His work as an actor includes productions at the Finborough Theatre, the Stratford Festival of Canada, New York’s Ensemble Studio Theatre and Classic Stage Company.

Matt is a graduate of the University of Toronto and the Clore Leadership short course, for which he received a Leaders Bursary. He also recently completed a sustainability and income diversification course with the School for Social Entrepreneurs.

Sophie is an arts administrator with prior experience in the therapeutic sector and FOH theatre operations. She graduated with joint honours in Media & Communications and Sociology.

Adam is an arts producer from London, recently working for Spare Tyre Theatre Company & Theatre Centre. He has worked on productions at venues including Theatre503, Park Theatre, Jermyn Street Theatre, Finborough Theatre, Southwark Playhouse, Hampstead Theatre, VAULT Festival & Marylebone Theatre.

Christopher Albert Holt is an actor, a theatre director, a lecturer, a voice coach and a disability arts practitioner.

He has worked for 30 years in professional theatre, beginning with the National Youth Theatre at the age of 15. He has worked all over Europe, appearing in shows nationally and internationally. He has performed in venues as disparate as the Moscow Arts Theatre, the National Theatre, Wembley Stadium, Royal Albert Hall and the Hen and Chickens pub in Islington.

As an actor, Christopher has worked across musical theatre, straight theatre, opera and film. He has appeared in the three largest musicals in the world: Les Misérables (West End), CATS (Hamburg) and The Lion King (Original Cast, London).  He has worked with Trevor Nunn, Sam Mendes, Julie Taymor, Matthew Warchus and Matthew Bourne. He has played the Olivier, the Donmar Warehouse, the Palace and the Lyceum (West End), as well as the West Yorkshire Playhouse, the Barbican, the BAC, Bath Theatre Royal, the Watermill, Newbury, the Tristan Bates, and Southwark Playhouse.

Tania has worked in corporate fundraising for 20 years, including at the National Theatre and Tate Gallery, and feels strongly that the arts should be accessible to all. She’s particularly passionate about the power of theatre to transform lives and bring people together, and is excited to be joining the board to use her skills to help grow Outside Edge and improve people’s lives. Tania currently works at Cancer Research UK where she specialises in the creation of high-value, strategic and mutually beneficial sponsorships.

Pippa works in the commercial theatre sector as Business Manager for a cluster of West End Theatres. Her primary experience in venue operations, encompassing Finance, HR Management, F&B, and theatre administration. Pippa completed a Clore Short Course in 2018, and is passionate about using her leadership skills to have a broader positive impact in the cultural sector.

Sarah has worked extensively as a director and dramaturg making theatre in a range of participatory, training and professional settings. After joining the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester as Literary Manager she developed the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting and became Artistic Director between 2014 – 2019. Her directing work there includes acclaimed collaborations with Maxine Peake – Hamlet, Miss Julie, Streetcar Named Desire, Happy Days. Premieres with the playwright Simon Stephens on On the Shore of the Wide World (Olivier Award Best Play) Punk Rock (MEN Best Production) Blindsided and Light Falls. Other work at the Royal Exchange includes  West Side Story, Death of a Salesman, Our Town (winner UK Theatre Award Best Director 2018) Betty! a new musical and Brief Encounter; for Manchester International Festival The Masque of Anarchy (2013), The Skirker (2015) and The Nico Project (2019) and for Hull City of Culture 2017 The Last Testament of Lillian Bilocca.

Between 2019 and 2021 she was Director of LAMDA. Since then her work as a Director and Dramaturg has included a Macbeth for Schools at Shakespeare’s Globe, The Breach at Hampstead, Work It Out for HOME, They and Robin/Red/Breast both collaborations with Manchester International Festival and MAAT (a new Company she has formed with Maxine Peake and Imogen Knight dedicated to creating new live performance work.)

Katherine is an experienced fundraiser and senior leader with a long history of working in the performing and cultural arts sector. She arrived in the U.K. from the U.S. in 2014 and joined the development team at the Donmar Warehouse, while pursuing her Masters in Arts and Cultural Policy at City University. During her time at the Donmar Warehouse she was a senior member of the development team, helping to raise the organisations largest fundraising target to date, working on multiple West End and Broadway transfers as well as the Shakespeare Trilogy at King’s Cross. She then moved to the Royal Albert Hall, where she launched their inaugural membership scheme and supported the wider organisation throughout Covid. Following her time at the Royal Albert Hall, she led the fundraising team at the Royal Court as their Director of Development and in 2024 she joined the team at Clore Leadership as their Head of Partnerships & Impact.

Bhags is a Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in addictions, with over 20 years of experience working within NHS and community services. Throughout his career, he has been deeply committed to reducing stigma around addiction and mental health, and to supporting people on their journeys of recovery with compassion, dignity and hope.

His professional practice is grounded in a trauma-informed approach, and he has always sought to champion person-centred, creative, and empowering pathways to healing. Over the years, he has witnessed how theatre and drama can be transformative—not only for those in recovery, but also for audiences and communities who come to understand the lived experience of others in a more human and nuanced way.

He believes that storytelling and performance hold unique power in shaping identity, processing trauma, and fostering connection. That is why he is honoured to be joining Outside Edge Theatre Company as a trustee—an organisation that aligns so closely with his values and belief in creative recovery.

Outside of his clinical work, he is a passionate supporter of the arts and is proud to be a patron of several theatres, including the Almeida, Bush, Royal Court, and Hampstead. These spaces inspire him with their bold, inclusive programming and commitment to amplifying diverse voices.

He is thrilled to bring his clinical perspective, strategic insight, and unwavering belief in the arts as a vehicle for social change to the important work of Outside Edge.

David is the Head of Participation at Southwark Playhouse. His role sees him develop and manage a large portfolio of participatory drama and arts-based projects for people of all ages from across South London, ranging from regular weekly activity to large scale professional productions for younger audiences. Partnership building is also key, and it is through this he has encountered the work of Outside Edge. He is excited to bring his experience of managing participatory arts to support the important vision of the charity.

Liam joined OETC in July 2005 after being convinced by our founder, Phil Fox, that Drama could be helpful in his recovery. And boy, was he right. Just going to the Drop-in once a week with people in the same boat gave him a sense of community and camaraderie that was missing in his life at the time. 

Then he got his first part in a play as an alcoholic single parent, which helped him retrieve his confidence and self-discipline. 

He went on to be involved with many OETC projects, travelling up and down the country, visiting and performing at other projects involving recovery. Liam can’t recommend OETC enough and it has played a significant part in his recovery. 

Liam became a Service User Rep in 2018.

Mary is an internal audit professional, having held leadership positions at Barclays, JPMorgan, Bank of America and most recently RBS. When she attended her first Outside Edge production, she was inspired and captivated by the work being done and the real transformations being achieved, not to mention the moving stories being told. She has followed the group’s work since then and was invited to join as a Board Member in July 2016.

Brian Dorgan, Head of Finance at Dulwich Picture Gallery and Director of Fresh Eyes Finance, brings over 20 years of accounting and bookkeeping experience to his roles.With a strong background in industries such as media and theatre, Brian has a proven track record of financial management and strategic advice. Prior to his current position at Dulwich Picture Gallery, he served as Finance Manager for The Donmar Warehouse from 2013 to 2018.

As a Director of Fresh Eyes Finance, Brian specialises in providing tailored financial solutions for charities, startups, and the entertainment industry. The firm offers a comprehensive range of services, including accounting, bookkeeping, and financial advice. Originally from Dublin, Brian now resides in Beckenham with his wife and daughter.

Joanna has 14 years of experience in the arts charity sector and is currently Executive Director at Pan Intercultural Arts, an organisation that uses creativity to support refugees, survivors of trafficking, and young people underserved by society.

Throughout her career, Joanna has driven meaningful growth across the organisations she’s worked with. She built a network of 150+ volunteers to support a regional theatre, enriched large-scale public events through supplementary diverse programming, and led a grassroots charity to expand its activity by over 60% and double its turnover in three years.

Joanna is passionate about the transformative power of creativity to connect, heal, and empower. Her work is rooted in a deep commitment to equity, disrupting power dynamics, and centering the voices of those the work is for. She previously served as a trustee for a regional puppetry festival and is excited to bring her experience, passion, and perspective to support the continued success of Outside Edge Theatre Company.

Gay was one of the first link workers recruited during South Southwark’s early adoption of social prescribing. She has played a pivotal role in shaping and supporting the development of the link worker role within the Primary Care Network (PCN) and across wider networks. Her contributions have helped grow the team, including the introduction of specialist roles, and she continues to champion the importance of social prescribing across the South East London Integrated Care System (ICS).

As a Board Trustee for the National Academy for Social Prescribing (NASP), Gay uses her platform to raise awareness of the value and impact of social prescribing across multiple sectors, both locally and internationally. She has contributed to the development of training modules for international teams, local cancer services, and universities, while also actively engaging with the creative health sector.

A passionate advocate for the role of creativity in health and wellbeing, Gay sees it as a powerful form of self-expression that supports recovery and connection. She looks forward to contributing to Outside Edge’s mission, helping individuals access the right support, and ultimately building healthier, more resilient communities.

Teresa Wirz is a visionary leader with over 27 years of experience in addictions services. As the Head of Addictions at CNWL (NHS), she leads a growing team of 239 staff across the CNWL Addictions Directorate, serving London, East of England, and Milton Keynes. Her portfolio includes substance misuse, behavioural addictions, gambling, gaming, and club drug services, recovery day programmes, and prison-based programmes.

Holding an RMN qualification and an MSc in Addictive Behavioural Medicine, Teresa has driven innovation in enhanced opiate detoxification and addressing emerging psychoactive substances. She also leads the Strategic Service User Board, ensuring service users have a voice in shaping the care they receive.

Her passion for the arts is influenced by her great-uncle, Tony Thorpe, set designer for Blackadder. Teresa believes in the arts as a powerful tool for healing and recovery, aligning with her commitment to building lasting recovery communities.

Ian joined Outside Edge in 2018 when he was early on in his recovery. The new skills he’s learned in acting, voice and movement have helped his recovery go from strength to strength. He has made a lot of new friends along the way and he enjoys the sense of community Outside Edge brings. Ian is a Service User Representative, he sits on the Diversity and Inclusion Working Group and he also facilitates. Ian says Outside Edge has been great for his mind, body and spirit. He couldn’t imagine his life without it.
